Eastern Sierras, California The rising sun bathes Mt. Tom in warm light. This was taken on a morning just after a major storm in the Eastern Sierras near the town of Bishop, CA.
Racetrack Playa, Death Valley NP, CA I had never visited Death Valley National Park before, so when my friends said they wanted to go during the Thanksgiving weekend, I was all for it! The first night, we drove to the Racetrack Playa to photograph the famous sailing stones. There was a treacherous, 27-mile stretch of "road" that was littered with sharp rocks and coarse gravel. Luckily my CR-V survived the trip there (and back) without incident, but other trucks weren't so lucky. We passed by one that was stuck on the road's embankment and had to be towed free, and another truck that completely lost a wheel. In the end, though, it was worth it. The Playa was absolutely beautiful, peaceful, and serene. I can't wait to go back again during Milky Way season, but I may want to invest in some new tires before then.
